The following obedience classes for dogs
are available at Smoketown Veterinary Hospital. Class
sizes are limited, so call Cathy at 394-5542 for more
information on how you and your dog can participate in one of
our fun training sessions.
PUPPY K or BEGINNER BASICS
Puppy K is an introductory class designed for dogs under 6
months of age, while Beginner Basics is designed for dogs over 6
months of age. These classes will start you and your new
puppy on the road to developing a rewarding companion
relationship. This 8-week session will cover basic
manners; attention; commands like sit, down, and stay; walking
on a loose leash; and coming when called.
INTERMEDIATE
Sharpen all the skills you've learned by adding the three D's:
distraction, duration, and distance. We'll also begin to
throw in some agility exercises during this 8-week session.
Your dog will love the extra challenge and fun.
SUGGESTED: Completion of Puppy K or Beginner Basics
ADVANCED
This 8-week session continues to hone learned skills and
introduces off-leash work, moving commands, and hand signals.
It also works on improving reliability. After completion
of this class, you and your dog will be ready to participate in
many of the additional class offerings below.
SUGGESTED: Completion of Intermediate class
BEGINNER AGILITY
This 8-week course introduces your dog to the most common
agility obstacles. The obstacles include the Tunnel,
Chute, Tire, Table, Weaves, A-Frame, Dog Walk, Teeter, and
Jumps. Each class will have a variety of obstacles set up,
allowing repetitions of the obstacles to make your dog
successful and confident about each task. Come and let

AGILITY FOR FUN
The goal of this 8-week course is to increase all equipment to
full height and to work on speed and accuracy on the equipment.
You will also increase your expertise in handling your dog
through the obstacles set out while learning the most effective
handling techniques. Your dog will love to show you how
much fun you can have together.
SUGGESTED: Completion of Beginner Agility or equivalent
RALLY-O
Rally obedience, or "Rally-O," is a fun and exciting team sport
for dogs and their handlers that combines the characteristics of
sport car racing, dog agility, and traditional obedience.
In this 8-week session, dog and handler teams will learn to
navigate performance stations set up on a course, with a sign at
each station instructing the dog-handler team which obedience
exercise to perform. Your dog will enjoy mixing it up
while developing a stronger bond with you.
